October news

Members of your W.I.

W.I. Being great ones for multi-tasking, your W.I. managed to have a review of one meeting, while holding two others at the same time, in November, as it was their A.G.M. as well as the "normal" monthly meeting.
The past happy, busy year was reviewed by Secretary Heather Cook and President Kaye Farmer. There'd been some excellent speakers, outings and work-shops. A veil was to be cast over the skittles though (better luck next year).
Treasurer Esther Twose reported a healthy bank balance. All three are staying on next year, and were all warmly thanked. There were several new members joining, and they were especially welcomed.Kaye reported on the very good County meeting and mentioned all the County events coming up, as 2008 isSomerset Federation 90th year.
At the same meeting they heard about the efforts throughout the country to save Community Hospitals, and all about Marks and Spencer's "plan A" which supports the W.I. carbon challenge. The ordinary (are they ever?) meeting was filled with plans for the forthcoming season, and looking on to next year with trips to Windsor and Barrington Court in the pipe-line. "Slapits" - visible arm-bands- were shown. The bring and buy on December 1st for a toilet for disabled people was announced, present giving solved in a flash.
Because of a local man being injured recently, and as members have relatives serving in Afghanistan and Iraq it was proposed that shoe boxes be filled and sent out there as some other serving people have very little sent to them; to Christine, please before 6th December. Eileen told of the filled boxes sent to children in Africa, with the "Smiles International" charity.
