The school is situated in the small rural village of
Sampford Arundel close to the town of Wellington and the Somerset/Devon county
border.
There has been a school in the village since the 1860s. The
school is very popular and a large proportion of the children come from outside
the village and attend as a result of parental choice.
Our children are organized into 3 classes of mixed ability,
grouped by age.
Together the staff and governors provide a happy,
well-organized environment in which each child is valued as an individual. The
school fosters a family atmosphere with a caring ethos. It aims to deliver a
broad curriculum with extra-curricular activities and community involvement
supported by an active 'Friends of Sampford Arundel School
Association'.
Pupils achieve high standards across the curriculum. In our
OfSTED inspection in 1996 standards were recognized as being above national
expectations and over the last 2 years the percentage of children achieving
national standards in English, Maths and Science has been above both the
national and county averages at ages 7 and 11.
Parents of prospective pupils are very welcome to visit the
school to meet the children and staff.( Published by The Somerset County Education dept. 1999) 'photos psb |
